Disclaimer

The CARI Guidelines have been developed to provide a clear summary of the best evidence-based information to assist patients, doctors, health professionals, the general community, those researching in the area, and where necessary, courts of law, to understand more easily the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease.

The CARI Guidelines provide firm recommendations, based on evidence-based studies, for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease with a view to improving the quality of health care and patient outcomes. They do not, however, constitute advice applicable to any particular case.

The CARI Guidelines are not intended to replace clinical judgement, but rather to complement it. The Guidelines should be used to assist physicians to exercise their clinical judgement for the benefit of the individual patient based on the current best evidence.

It is hoped that the CARI Guidelines will reduce unnecessary variations in clinical practice. However, it should be remembered that the Guidelines are not designed to be prescriptive but rather to act as a guide, and depending on the circumstances of the case, there may be sound reasons to justify departure from the recommendations in the Guidelines. In some instances, the optimal management of an individual patient may necessitate departure from these recommendations.
